This is where  you will see a pop quiz.  It will be 2 to 3 simple questions from the previous lesson's material.

You will be able to click the correct answers, and I will hold your accountable if you wish.  The quiz's are not required but are beneficial for our growth :)

Genesis 1 and 2

The very first book of the Bible is Genesis.  It was written by Moses.
God created the earth in 7 days.
Very first verse in Genesis:
1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
Day 1: God spoke light into existence.  He saw it was good and he separated the light from the darkness and called the light "day" and dark, "night."
Day 2:  God made space between the waters of heaven and waters of earth and he called the space "sky"
Day 3:  He called the waters to come together to flow in one place and called the dry ground "land".  He called the waters "sea"
11Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. 12The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
Day 4: 14Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. 15Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened.16God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, 18to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
Day 5: 20Then God said, “Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind.” 21So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 22Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.”
Day 6: 24Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. 25God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
26Then God said, “Let us make human beingsb in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

27So God created human beingsc in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Day 7: God RESTED - this is why we have Sundays for rest, representing the 7th day where God rested in creating life.

Why is this relevant?  Because we do know where we came from and we do have a God who wants an intimate relationship with us.  Soon we will study "sin" and how it entered the world and separated us from God.  Sin is the wrong things we do and the disobedience to God.  Before sin, Adam and Eve walked and talked with God.
Next Lesson: We will study Genesis 6.  We will see how man has become so corrupt that God will flood the earth.  Stay tuned!

1.   Do we come from the line of Cain?
  • Yes
  • No
2.   Why is genealogy important to us as Christians?
  • God loves men more than women
  • It gives us concrete evidence that what the writers of the Bible are telling us are true.

Genesis 5

Remember that Adam and Eve had Seth to replace Abel, because Cain killed Abel, who is now a wanderer.  Adam was 130 years old when he and Eve had Seth.

People clearly lived until they were a lot older than we do today.

Study below the genealogy of Noah and his 3 sons, Ham, Shem and Japeth.

Here you have Noah and his 3 sons coming from the line of Seth.  We are NOT from the line of Cain.  Do not confuse the Lamech from the line of Cain and the Lamech who fathered Noah.  This Lamech is the one from the line of Seth (not Cain or Abel).  They used many of the same names, just as we do today.

Lamech could see the difficulties of the curse that Adam and Eve caused for them.  Lamech spoke over his son Noah (asking of God):
"He (Noah) will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed"

Check out how Lamech spoke over Noah!  He declared over his life.  He spoke over Noah saying that he would comfort God's people from the curse.  God must have revealed this to Lamech and Lamech spoke it over Noah.

The Lord has revealed specifics to me over my children.  I speak over my children every night before bed.  I ask that God would use them for His glory and keep them on the path towards Him.
Next week: We will study Genesis 6.  We will see how man has become so corrupt that God will flood the earth.  Stay tuned!
